Mentor Registration

CANTRAIN’s mentorship program offers a unique opportunity to guide emerging clinical researchers while providing career guidance, industry exposure, skill development, and community building through one-on-one, team-based, and sessional mentorship relationships. This approach supports patient and community priorities in research and encourages a more inclusive research culture.

    Program objectives include:

    • To support the professional development of Master’s, PhD, and Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) awardees through personalized mentorship and targeted training opportunities.
    • To enhance the academic and career trajectories of awardees by providing them with expert guidance, educational resources, and collaborative learning environments.
    • Growing and sustaining the number of Highly Qualified Clinical Research Professionals through career exposure, professional development, and equity-focused initiatives

Mentors are invited to meet with mentees at least once every two months (for up to 60 minutes), with flexibility to connect more frequently if agreed upon. Patient and Community Partner Mentors are offered an honorarium of $40 per hour for time spent meeting or preparing, following CIHR guidelines.

    How to become a mentor

To get started, please complete the form below and let us know about your areas of expertise and mentorship interests. Once submitted, our Mentorship Coordinator will arrange a brief meeting to share additional details and answer any initial questions.

As an Academic Mentor or a Patient and Community Partner Mentor, you will be supported throughout the mentorship journey. This includes help with matching mentees, participation in orientation meetings, communication with CANTRAIN mentorship leaders, and access to handbooks and guidelines designed to enrich the mentoring experience.

For Patient and Community Partner Mentors specifically, a dedicated liaison—Linda Hunter, National Manager of the Patients and Community Partners Stream—will be available to answer questions and offer guidance as the mentor-mentee relationship progresses. In recognition of your contributions, all Patient and Community Partner Mentors will receive an honorarium of $40 per hour, as outlined by CIHR guidelines.
