BIOGRAPHY: Ms. Jacinthe Baril serves as the Manager of Technical Platforms at the
Centre for Innovative Medicine (CIM) RI-MUHC in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She is a
course lecturer in the department of Health, Kinesiology, and Applied Physiology at
Concordia University.
The CIM is a dedicated clinical research facility that specializes in leading clinical trials to transform discoveries into treatments that improve the health of patients across the lifespan. By leveraging her 15 years of experience in diverse research methodologies and study populations, Ms. Baril has helped position the CIM as a true center of research excellence through her commitment to supporting the investigators. She is responsible for managing a multidisciplinary team of health professionals and managing the operational processes within the allocated budget. She has become a cornerstone of this centre and its ability to accelerate quality clinical research by offering dedicated space, state-of-the-art equipment, and highly qualified support staff to facilitate their research endeavors. Interestingly, she’s a current member of the Glen RI-MUHC Facility Animal Care Committee that oversee activities by approving protocols involving live animals. One of Ms. Baril’s strongest attributes that underlies her success in supporting clinical research is her ability to advance knowledge, best practices, and ethical considerations through her exceptional change management and leadership skills. She was instrumental in the implementation of softwares and in streamlining platform-specific service processes. Ms. Baril has, and continues to, improve best practice, thereby enabling her team to continue to push the boundaries of excellence in clinical research.
What is your interest in clinical trials?
• Improving site operational efficiency to shorten the timelines of trial conduct
Why do you think clinical trials are important?
• Clinical trials provide a way to explore the most effective means to prevent, diagnose and treat human health outcomes.
What is your personal philosophy about clinical trial training specifically or mentorship in general?
• Guidance from mentors greatly enhances skill development and professional competency.
FUN FACT: When I was a research trainee myself several years ago, I benefited from the career and professional development training opportunities from The Desjardins Centre for Advanced Training of the RI-MUHC. These opportunities shaped my way to a fulfilling career. It is now my turn to play the role of a mentor and connect with trainees.
