BIOGRAPHY: Dr. David Collister (he/him/his) completed his MD at the University of Manitoba, Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Alberta, Nephrology fellowship at the University of Manitoba and PhD in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University. He is a clinician-scientist and Assistant Professor in the Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta. His research focuses on symptom management in patients with kidney disease and specifically in randomized controlled trials of treatments to alleviate uremic symptoms and prospective cohort studies focused on precision medicine. He is also interested in the intersection of kidney health with gender diversity.

What is your interest in clinical trials?
• We need better evidence to inform the care of patients with kidney disease.

Why do you think clinical trials are important?
• They provide the highest level of evidence to inform clinical care.

What is your personal philosophy about clinical trial training specifically or mentorship in general?
• Designing and conducting your own clinical trial and facing its challenges and experiencing its successes is the best way to grow as an investigator.
